Artist Statement

I love my job. I can’t wait to go to work in the morningsMy days are filled with creating beautiful and inspiring murals and paintings. My dreams are occupied with mixing colors and planning compositions. I can sit and watch clouds roll by, rapt with awe of their color and formation. When I am painting, I often forget to stop and eat or take a break.

But things weren’t always this way. I was a late bloomer when it comes to art.

My earliest memory of art is coming home from kindergarten ashamed of the colorful page in my hands. I remember crying to mom, “All the other kids can draw things and I can only draw scribble scrabble!” My high school art class was enjoyable, but I never showed exceptional promise or even considered art as a viable career option.

Fast-forward ten years. I was working hard and rising in the ranks as a computer network administrator for a biotech company. On the outside I was building a successful career, but on the inside I felt dissatisfied and uninspired in my life. I hadn’t touched a paintbrush since high school.

On a whim I enrolled in an art therapy class. That was the spark that created a momentous shift in my life. Six months later had quit my job and reinvented myself as a mural artist.

It has been ten wonderful years since that first art therapy class, and my world has grown into a previously unimaginable creative renaissance. Because of my transformational experience, I am passionate about inspiring and encouraging others to challenge their own stories and fears that might be stopping them from pursuing their own crazy dreams.

My style has developed organically, very much from my personal expression and interpretation of the world around me. I try to distill beauty and peace in my paintings, because that is what I want to bring into my life. The majority of my subjects are landscapes because I love to spend my free time either hiking in, or celebrating through paint, the beautiful world we live in.
