The Process

So, you want a mural, and you think I might be a good fit for your project.  What next?

Send me an e-mail or even better give me a call (650) 814-1490 with a brief description of the project.  It is very helpful if you know the dimensions of the room or wall, can give me an idea of either subject or target audience, and provide me with your location.

If you are within 30 miles from Los Altos, CA , I then schedule a in person consultation with you.  I get a chance to see where the mural will go, hear your initial ideas and discuss goals and budget.  I will brainstorm with you on ideas, and we will pick the best ones.  I will create a rough sketch of the concept, and leave you with the sketch, as well as a bid and contract for the work.  This initial meeting usually takes about 30 minutes.

If you live further than 30 miles away, then we can use technolgy to our advantage and have a virtual consultation.  You send me photos of the room, and then we go over the creative ideas for the space on the phone.  I will provide you with a bid, contract, and sketch in a follow up e-mail.

You liked my ideas and my style of art, and you want to hire me.  Now what?

Yay!  We then discuss the best date for the work to begin.  I require a signed contract and a 50% deposit before work begins, which is a mutual guarantee to the agreed upon project terms and painting dates.  You would mail me a deposit check along with the signed contract to:

One week before the mural is scheduled...

I will give you a call or touch base by e-mail to confirm the start date and time, and any preparation of the space necessary.  We will review the concept again and see if either of us have had any new thoughts or suggested changes to the concept.

The mural creation

I am very focused and work hard when I am painting.  I usually paint between 5 and 6 hours each day, typically from  8:30AM until 2PM.   You are welcome to watch the process and chat with me as much as you like; I like the company.   At the end of each day, either in person or by phone in the evening, I like to hear your feedback on the progress to make sure I am on the right track.

Completion

Clients usually comment on how quickly the work progresses.  My focus is on getting things right, and I work until we are both satisfied with the results.  At some point, I see I have expressed what I set out to create, and the work is done.  I identify this moment as the point where further embellishment diminishes the flow and energy of the piece.  I then turn to my client and say, I am feeling finished with this piece.  Are you pleased?  Is there anything we wanted here that I forgot?  Would you change anything about the mural?  When you are satisfied (or, hopefully, thrilled) with the results, then the mural is complete and the remaining payment is due.
